Chapter 490: - The Fate of Faeries is so Cruel
"How much do you know about the Immortal Legacy's faeries, Leon?" Freya asked.
That evening, she and Leon were sitting at a nearby café, enjoying the town's food, drinks, and the pleasant night atmosphere.
"Not much yet," Leon admitted, taking a sip of his drink. "What I do know is that they're a race whose true potential can only be unlocked when they form a bond with humans. It's a pretty unique concept, but it also feels kind of forced. And because of this setup, many faeries end up being mistreated by the humans who contract with them. Some are even used as... sex objects. Is that right?"
Freya nodded slowly. "Yes... but why did you bring up the last part with so much enthusiasm? Were you thinking about that?"
Leon sighed. "You always know how to put me on the spot, huh?"
Freya smirked. "Well, even now, a lot of players are actively trying to form bonds or contracts with faeries, you know."
"Yeah, but isn't it also common for players to marry NPCs in-game, Freya?" Leon countered.
"Yes... they do it to experience something different," she replied softly, before quickly diverting her gaze, feeling a bit awkward for steering the conversation into such a strange topic.
Leon leaned in, intrigued. "Don't Spirits also form contracts with humans, just like Faeries do? What makes them different?"
Freya smiled and nodded. "Basically, Faeries and Spirits have similar contracts, but there's a key difference. If a Faery's contracted human dies, they can't form another contract with anyone else. The bond between Faeries and Humans runs much deeper emotionally because of this permanence."
"So, what are the conditions of these contracts?" Leon pressed. "Isn't it kind of like slavery?"
Freya giggled, raising an eyebrow. "How can you talk about slavery when you yourself have two Spirits under contract? Oh wait, not two, but four, including that horse and the little troublemaker."
Leon scoffed, shaking his head. "I don't enslave them. I raised them, provided them with food and everything they need, and I treat them well-like companions, not servants."
Freya's smile softened. "That's how it should be. But Faeries are different from Spirits. Faeries are more like Humans, Dwarves, and Elves. They have physical bodies, and they can die. Spirits, on the other hand, don't have a true physical form. When they 'die,' they simply return to their own realm. A Spirit only dies when they no longer have the will to live."
Leon furrowed his brow, considering her words. "That's... a strange way to exist."
Freya nodded. "It's unique, for sure. But that's why Faeries are much more vulnerable in their contracts-they experience loss and mortality, just like we do."
Leon nodded, encouraging her to continue.
Freya took a slow breath before explaining, "A bond for Faeries is a form of trust and kindness towards Humans."
She paused for a moment, collecting her thoughts. "It all started, according to history, when the Fae Queen had a strong relationship with humans. They lived side by side in harmony. But one day, the Fae Queen made a mistake, and because of that mistake, Faeries could only unlock their true potential by forming a bond with Humans."
Leon paused, then answered, "No...?"
"This is the first time I've seen you so enthusiastic about discussing sex, Leon. Are you interested in learning more?"
"Just get to the conclusion, please," he muttered.
Freya giggled. "Okay... so, Faeries won't produce offspring through their relationship with
humans."
Leon sighed. "When a bond between faeries and humans is formed out of mutual feelings, only for humans to exploit them and cause harm, the fate of faeries in Yunatea seems truly
oppressive."
Freya nodded. "And to make things worse, their Queen vanished, leaving them without
leadership."
Leon pondered her words before saying, "I'm satisfied with your explanation. Is there anything else important I should know?"
Freya's eyes brightened. "Oh, yes! You've been invited by someone to join their team for the Eternal Challenge-the biggest competition event in Immortal Legacy. It's scheduled for
early next year!"
