Chapter 622: Monkey’s Daughter
Chapter 622: Monkey’s Daughter
"Miss Chu, you saw how these people treat girls. Many have fallen into their hands and none of them made it alive. Some didn’t want to be humiliated, so they took their own lives before they could suffer. Others didn’t have such courage and were humiliated to death." Monkey explained as they walked.
"Did none of you stand up to fight against them?" Chu Miao asked casually, but she could guess the answer even before Monkey answered.
"At first, people did try to fight. Even our leader led us to oppose them, but many ended up dead and people became fearful. Now, no one dares to oppose them, because their outcome is death." He explained with a sigh.
"What about killing them one by one. For example, that group of people we just met. If you guys band together, you can take them out." Chu Miao asked again out of curiosity.
"They are not that easy to deal with. Besides, they have weakened us completely. Without even a full meal since they showed up, what do we have to fight them with? Our failing bodies? They don’t even let us keep crystal cores because if those with superpower absorb them and get stronger, they would break away from their control. So, even though there are superpower users in the community, they are no different from ordinary people.".
Listening to Monkey, Chu Miao couldn’t understand why fellow humans would treat others like that. Instead of using that strength to kill a few more zombies.
"What kind of beasts are those?" She asked angrily.
"They are worse than beasts." Monkey replied.
As they talked, they arrived in front of a building and Monkey led Chu Miao inside cautiously.
They had to take the stairwell which was dark and had a very unpleasant murky smell.
If one didn’t know they would think that countless rats had died there.
"Don’t mind the environment, we are already used to it." Monkey said softly.
However, the melancholy in his voice couldn’t be hidden.
Chu Miao remembered that when she came to this community to pick up Feng Tu and her family several months prior, the community was sealed and clean. But now, it was similar to a ruin with the smell of a garbage dump.
"Let’s get to your house as soon as possible." I couldn’t wait to leave this place, but more than that, I couldn’t imagine what that sick child was going through living in a place like this.
"We live on the tenth floor, please bear with it." Monkey was so careful around Chu Miao, it was hilarious.
He never used to be like this. He was lively before.
However, Chu Miao didn’t say anything anymore.
They climbed the stairs slowly because Monkey wasn’t in good health. Chu Miao even wondered how he had managed to walk all the way to the market.
Luckily, when they got to the tenth floor, they didn’t find anything unpleasant. Otherwise, Chu Miao would have lost it.
Monkey stood in front of the door and knocked a few times. He waited for a moment before knocking again with a different rhythm.
Chu Miao instantly understood that this was a code he had agreed with his wife.
Considering the behavior of those beasts in the community, such a code must be changed every time he leaves the house, because if those people found out about the code, they would probably use it against his family.
Just as expected, after the code was repeated three times, the door opened at a fast speed.
The person inside didn’t waste time as she pulled Monkey into the house and slammed the door shut.
Chu Miao was locked outside and stood there not knowing whether to laugh or cry.
She came to help, but was locked outside. How was she supposed to help then?
But she understood the woman’s fear. If those people had been following her husband and they delayed at the door, then their family would be done for.
The door remained locked for about a minute before it opened again and Monkey welcomed Chu Miao inside.
"Come in, Miss Chu, sorry about my wife, she is just afraid." He explained eagerly as if afraid of being misunderstood.
"It’s okay. I understand. Let’s see the child first." Chu Miao walked in confidently as she said this.
The living room wasn’t very clean because there was no water to wipe the surface, but it didn’t have dust.
It was obvious that someone had been trying to maintain cleanliness and hygiene.
A young girl who looked as if only skin and bones were left lay on the sofa in the middle of the living room looking like she would breath her last at any moment.
"She is in very bad shape. I am not sure how long she can hold on." Monkey said with so much sadness it almost drowned Chu Miao.
"Don’t worry, she will be fine." Chu Miao said as she walked over and stood next to the sofa.
At such a close distance, she could see that the little girl was gravely ill, but the illness was only made worse by hunger.
If she had enough to eat and drink, her situation wouldn’t have become one of life and death.
"Miss, can my little girl be saved?" Monkey’s wife asked while clutching her husband’s clothes.
It was obvious that she was very dependent on her husband.
"She can, don’t worry." Chu Miao replied with a shallow smile.
Even though the girl looked like she would draw her last breath in the next moment, Chu Miao had to admit that she was a fighter.
Holding on for so long. She had a strong will to live.
Without another word, she took out a small bowl from her space with some green liquid inside.
This was diluted spiritual spring water mixed with some herbs infused with wood power. It could quite literally bring the dead back to life.
So, Chu Miao had the little girl held in her mother’s arms then she fed her a few spoonfuls of the concoction.
About five minutes after taking it, she opened her eyes and looked much livelier.
"She looks much better, thank you benefactor." Monkey’s wife tried to get up and kowtow but Chu Miao stopped her.
Your husband and I are friends, you don’t have to be so polite with me." Chu Miao said with resignation.
She hadn’t expected that even in the apocalypse, there were such principled people.
"No, I must thank you. If not for you, my daughter would have died and I honestly can’t live without her. You saved our entire family." Chu Miao simply couldn’t stop her.
To make matters worse, Monkey also joined in.
"Alright, could you please eat first so that you have the strength to give your gratitude?" Chu Miao stopped the people who couldn’t stop thanking her and placed several dishes on the table, including bowls of soup.
She also took out some milk powder for the child and provided warm water to mix it with.
Moreover, the water was mixed with some spiritual spring water to enhance the health of the child.
Monkey knew that Chu Miao wasn’t teasing them, so he urged his wife to start eating while he prepared the baby’s milk.
His wife nearly shed tears as she ate. This was the first time they had seen such a hot and nourishing meal in a long time.
On the table, there were bowls of soup, a plate of meat, another one filled with vegetables grown in the space ring, and two bowls of rice.
This was enough food to eat for days if well rationed.
That was what Monkey’s wife was thinking, but seeing that Chu Miao didn’t say anything, she decided to eat to her heart’s content.
Once Monkey was done mixing the milk for the baby and fed her, he joined his wife at the table to eat.
Even though Chu Miao had given him soup before coming, it had already been digested and he was indeed hungry.
Unfortunately, good things always brought trouble and the smell of meat couldn’t exactly be covered by the stench of rot.
So, some neighbors still smelled the meat they were eating and got restless.
For those who had whole-heartedly submitted to the tyrant’s loading over the community, they didn’t feel burdened reporting Monkey and his family for eating meat.
This soon brought the group of people tormenting the residents to their door.
Upon hearing the commotion outside, Monkey’s wife almost fainted out of fear.
She knew that a man was innocent until they possessed a treasure and in those troubled times, meat was the highest level of luxury.
So, anyone who had meat would definitely be targeted by those with ulterior motives.
"What should we do? Those people definitely won’t let us go this time." Monkey’s wife said in fear, dropping her chopsticks on the table.
"Don’t panic, those small fries outside are nothing but ants." Chu Miao said dismissively.
However, this didn’t reassure her and only made her even more nervous.
"You don’t understand, those people are ruthless. What if they hurt you on our account? You saved our daughter, we can’t drag you down."
Chu Miao thought that this family was too nice for their own good.
