Chapter 83 Kim Min-jung's Mischievous Idea
Chapter 83 Kim Min-jung's Mischievous Idea
Dark as ink.
A white Hyundai slowly drove out of the residential area, its headlights casting two bright beams in the night.
Jiang Yan gripped the steering wheel with one hand and rubbed his stiff neck with the other.
The conversation tonight was packed with information; he needs some time to process it.
There were two insulated bags on the passenger seat, one pink and one blue, which Kim Tae-yeon had packed for him before he left.
The pink one is Kim Minjung's, and the blue one is Yoo Jimin's.
As for Lim Yoon-a, Kim Tae-yeon insisted that she stay because it was too late. Kang Yeon breathed a sigh of relief, as he was genuinely afraid of being photographed taking Lim Yoon-a home so late.
The car was moving smoothly. Jiang Yan glanced at the in-car screen, which showed the time: 23:40.
If Kotaro hasn't contacted us by now, he's probably doing extra training.
He parked his car on the side of the road near the side entrance of the SM building, then adjusted the seat back and closed his eyes to rest.
Before long, the side door of the SM building was pushed open.
Kim Minjung walked ahead, with Yoo Jimin half a step behind, carrying a black backpack and draped her school uniform jacket over her arm.
Kim Minjung's eyes lit up the moment he saw the white Hyundai parked by the roadside. He grabbed Yoo Jimin's wrist and ran to the car, exclaiming, "Oppa! Have you been waiting long?"
"We just arrived a short while ago." Jiang Yan unlocked the car, and Kim Minjung got into the back seat. She then turned to look at Yoo Jimin, who was still standing outside the car. "Unnie?"
"Ani, it's getting late." Liu Zhimin shook her head and said, then bowed slightly to Jiang Yan, "Jiang Yan oppa, I'm sorry, I have to go now."
Seeing this, Kim Minjung quickly leaned over and grabbed her sleeve: "Unnie, let Oppa take you to the subway station, it's faster than walking."
As she spoke, she gave Liu Zhimin a wink, signaling her not to speak yet, and then pulled her into the car.
Lin Xiaolu swung her legs in the passenger seat and winked at Jiang Yan: "Your little Taro is up to no good."
"I know," Jiang Yan replied in his mind, then picked up the two insulated bags and handed them to the back seat. "You must be hungry. I made these myself, so eat them while they're hot."
"Wow, Oppa, you're like an angel."
"Yes, thank you, Kang Yeon oppa."
After closing the car door, Jiang Yan started the engine and turned the heater up one level.
In the back seat, Kim Minjung impatiently lifted the lid of the insulated food container, looked down, and let out a low exclamation: "Daebak... Oppa, what is this? Beef? And tofu? What's this red thing?"
"Boiled beef in chili oil and Mapo tofu are both dishes from China." Jiang Yan turned on the turn signal, and the car smoothly merged into the lane. "I've adjusted the flavor, but it should still be a bit spicy. You guys try it first. If you don't like it, there's non-spicy Korean stir-fried beef and soybean paste soup on the bottom layer."
Kim Minjung broke open his chopsticks, picked up a piece of boiled beef, and stuffed it into his mouth.
The next second she covered her mouth and fanned herself frantically, "It's so spicy! But it tastes so good, Oppa, this is delicious."
Liu Zhimin couldn't help but cover her mouth and laugh as she watched her eating so enthusiastically and relentlessly.
She looked down at the insulated food container on her lap, her eyelashes fluttering slightly. "Thank you, Jiang Yan oppa, for bringing me one too."
"Don't be shy," Jiang Yan replied casually. "Eat it while it's hot, it won't taste good when it's cold."
"Yes," Liu Zhimin replied, but did not immediately open the insulated box.
She gently placed the insulated box on her lap, lowered her head, and bit her lower lip, looking hesitant.
By this time, Kim Minjung had already devoured three slices of boiled beef, her lips red from the spiciness. She was gulping down water when she noticed Yoo Jimin hadn't touched her chopsticks. Turning to her, she said, "Unnie, why aren't you eating? It's really delicious! It's a bit spicy, but it's incredibly fragrant!"
Liu Zhimin gently shook her head: "I'm not hungry, Minjun, you eat more. I have more here if you're not full."
No sooner had he finished speaking than a rumbling sound came from inside the car.
Jiang Yan glanced in the rearview mirror and saw that Liu Zhimin's face was red all the way from the base of her neck to the tips of her ears. She was embarrassed, covering her stomach with one hand and scratching her head awkwardly with the other.
"Jimin, it's okay to eat in the car. Minjun has already eaten, so relax."
Liu Zhimin held the bag, smelled the fragrant food in the bowl next to her, her throat bobbed slightly, but she still didn't move.
Seeing her conflicted expression, Kim Minjung suddenly remembered something and explained, "Oh right! Oppa, it's like this, the company weighed us today, and Jimin unnie is 0.3 kilograms heavier than last time, so she's afraid to eat and is worried about gaining weight again."
Liu Zhimin tugged at Jin Minzheng's sleeve, both embarrassed and anxious: "Minzheng, please stop talking..."
"Why didn't you say so!" Kim Minjung turned around and glared at her fiercely. "What's 0.3 kilograms? The teacher said we're still growing and it's normal for our weight to fluctuate a little. Why are you making things difficult for yourself?"
Hearing Kim Minjung's powerful reprimand, Jiang Yan's lips curved slightly, and then he cleared his throat: "It's okay, Jimin, eat up. Beef won't make you fat, and tofu is low in calories. It's fine to eat it once in a while."
Liu Zhimin bit her lower lip, her gaze shifting back and forth between the steaming tofu and fragrant beef in Jin Minzheng's bowl, her little face filled with struggle.
After a while, she exhaled, picked up her chopsticks, and put a piece of stir-fried beef into her mouth.
Seeing that she was finally willing to eat, Kim Minjung said with a grin, "Unnie, eat more, eat more. This tofu is super delicious, you should try it."
Liu Zhimin nodded, taking small bites of her food, and then quickly glanced at the profile of the person driving intently in the rearview mirror before looking away.
She remembered the last time she ran into Jiang Yan at the company. He did the same thing, didn't ask her anything, just gave her a few candies, said a few lukewarm words of advice, and then turned and left.
It seems that for Kang Yeon oppa, taking care of others is never something he needs to worry about; he just does it casually and doesn't expect anyone to remember it afterward.
Before the two had finished their meal, Jiang Yan parked the car at the subway station entrance.
Kim Minjung rolled her eyes, turned to look outside, and then exclaimed "Ah!" with a feigned pained expression: "Oh no, Oppa, Jimin unnie's last train has passed."
Jiang Yan knew exactly what she meant, but he pretended to be clueless and asked, "And then?"
Kim Minjung immediately put on that pitiful little expression, clasped her hands together above her head: "Oppa, could you give Jimin unnie a ride? Taking a taxi at this hour is too expensive, and it's not safe for one person to take a taxi alone. What if we run into a bad old man? Jimin unnie is so beautiful, it's too dangerous!"
Liu Zhimin blushed again at her words, and quickly grabbed her arm, whispering, "It's okay, I was going to take a taxi by myself anyway. I already told my dad, Oppa, this is fine."
"Unnie, be quiet." Kim Minjung raised his hand and covered her mouth, continuing to stare at Kang Yeon with his round eyes, "Oppa, Oppa Oppa Oppa..."
Jiang Yan's temples throbbed from this barrage of coquettish attacks. He raised his hand to stop, sighed helplessly, and said, "Alright, alright, tell me the address."
Upon hearing this, Kim Minjung instantly dropped his ingratiating expression and turned to Yoo Jimin, proudly raising his chin.
Liu Zhimin stared blankly at her, then looked at Jiang Yan's doting eyes in the rearview mirror.
She lowered her eyelashes, hugged her backpack tighter, and whispered an address.
The car turned around in the night and headed south.
Thirty minutes later, the white Hyundai stopped in front of an ordinary residential building.
Liu Zhimin got out of the back seat with her backpack, walked to the driver's side window, and bowed respectfully again: "Jiang Yan oppa, thank you for bringing me back, and thank you for dinner, it was really delicious."
Jiang Yan looked at her through the rolled-down car window. The streetlight shone on her fair face. He nodded and said, "Get some rest. You have practice tomorrow."
"Yes, Oppa, you should get some rest too."
After Liu Zhimin finished speaking, she waved to Kim Minjung in the back row: "Minjung, see you tomorrow."
"See you tomorrow, unnie!" Kim Minjung stuck her head out of the car window and waved vigorously until Yoo Jimin's figure disappeared into the building entrance before she pulled back in.
The car restarted and drove back in the direction it had come from.
Kim Minjung sat in the back row and didn't chatter as usual.
Jiang Yan glanced in the rearview mirror and saw her holding her backpack with a silly smile on her face.
"What are you grinning about? Did you find some money?"
"It's nothing." Kim Minjung snapped out of her daze, shifted her position, and leaned back in the seat in front of her. "I just think Oppa is so nice. He brings food back for my friend too, which makes me feel really good."
