Chapter 68 The Silent "Allies"
Chapter 68 The Silent "Allies"
"Hey, why didn't you take this opportunity to mention it? Kenzie unnie already showed you EXO's playlist, wouldn't it be perfect to say, 'Teacher, I have a song that's perfect for EXO'?"
Lin Xiaolu floated from behind him to directly in front of him, looking quite puzzled.
Jiang Yan silently replied in his mind, "What's the rush?"
"What do you mean 'what's the rush'? Aren't you in a tight schedule? Two weeks!"
"The product isn't finished yet, so saying anything now is like making an empty promise. Once I've finished the demo, I can play it for her directly. That would be more effective than saying a hundred things now."
Lin Xiaolu opened her mouth, but found that she couldn't refute it, so she could only float back to the sofa dejectedly.
At nine o'clock sharp, Tiffany pushed open the door and came in. She was in even better spirits than yesterday. As soon as she entered, she smiled and gave Kenzie a high five: "Unnie, I think I can get it right in one take today."
Kenzie pressed the record button: "I'll remember that. If you don't get it right in one take, you're treating the whole crew to barbecue."
"Um, no problem, then give me some more time to prepare."
Subsequent events proved Tiffany wrong; the recording of the last non-single track took almost two hours, and the recording of the entire album was not finished until before 11 a.m.
Tiffany took off her headphones, her eyes slightly red, and walked out of the recording studio. She hugged Kenzie, but this time she didn't let the tears fall.
She let out a heavy sigh, her voice tinged with excitement, and said, "Nine years, nine years of waiting, it's finally finished recording."
Kenzie gave her a gentle smile and patted her on the shoulder: "Well done, leave the rest to us."
Tiffany nodded, turned to look at Jiang Yan, and suddenly stepped forward to give him a brief hug: "Xiao Yan, thank you so much. If it weren't for you, this album might still be under revision."
Jiang Yan was stunned by the sudden hug, but thankfully Tiffany quickly let go. He secretly breathed a sigh of relief and bowed slightly: "Noona, this is what I should do. And... regarding the salary, thank you Noona for vouching for me."
Tiffany paused for a moment, then smiled and waved her hand: "Aigoo, Jung-hwan oppa, you big mouth! I told you not to tell you. Alright, alright, no need for thanks. I'm leaving now, I have a radio show tonight."
She picked up her bag and walked to the door, then turned back and winked at Jiang Yan: "By the way, Yoona seemed to be in a particularly good mood last night. What did you two talk about?"
Jiang Yan lied without changing his expression: "We just talked about music, and Yoona was quite interested in the arrangement too."
"Really?" Tiffany looked at him suspiciously, then just smiled meaningfully, pushed open the door and left.
The recording studio fell silent again. Kenzie stood up and stretched her stiff shoulders, glancing at her watch. "I'm going to Jiangnan this afternoon. I have an appointment to discuss some business. You can arrange your own time this afternoon."
"Yes, teacher."
Kenzie packed up his notebook, paused at the door, and without turning around, simply said, "By the way, let me see your market analysis report after you finish writing it."
Jiang Yan was taken aback.
"Bang!"
The door closed, and Kenzie disappeared into the doorway. Lin Xiaolu peeked out from behind him: "How did she know?"
Jiang Yan opened his laptop, and when the screen lit up, the title of the market analysis report was very eye-catching.
She probably caught it when she came in.
He silently closed his notebook, but a strange feeling welled up inside him. It turned out that the teacher knew what he was doing, and hadn't asked him anything. She had just told him to show it to her when he was done.
"Your teacher is pretty good to you," Lin Xiaolu remarked, resting her chin on her hand. Then, she changed the subject, "But now that no one's watching you, are you going to look for that EXO song first this afternoon, or finish your Red Velvet work first?"
"Let's get Red Velvet sorted out first." Jiang Yan put his monitoring headphones back on and pulled up the project file Kenzie had given him. "The deadline is approaching, so let's finish this first. Then, when we get back tonight, we'll copy down the three songs Yoona and Noona sent us."
"You really never let yourself have a moment's rest." Lin Xiaolu shook her head, floated back onto the sofa, and watched as Jiang Yan got back into work mode.
Jiang Yan stared intently at the densely packed waveforms on the screen, making subtle adjustments to the slider with his fingers, occasionally frowning slightly, and quickly jotting down a few notes in his notebook.
This time, Jiang Yan made full use of his eyesight and finished all the work at hand in just over two hours.
He took off his headphones, rubbed his sore eyes, then exported the slightly modified version, packaged it, and sent it to Kenzie's work email.
After finishing all that, he glanced at the time: 1:30 PM.
There is plenty of time.
Jiang Yan picked up his phone and sent a message to An Zhenghuan: "[Zhenghuan, do you know anyone in the marketing department? I want to check some data, related to business partnerships.]"
Less than a minute later, Ahn Jung-hwan replied: "I have a junior colleague in the marketing department. What do you want to investigate?"
[Industry data on celebrity endorsement contract amounts and their contribution to the fan economy, used for compiling a market analysis report.]
Ahn Jung-hwan was silent for a moment, then sent a pointing-the-nose emoji with the caption: "You want to check Sulli's stats, right?"
Jiang Yan's finger hovered over the screen, trying to figure out how to explain, when another message popped up.
[Go to the data analysis group in the marketing department on the second floor. Find Kim Min-soo and tell her I sent you.]
Jiang Yan looked at the words on the screen, a slight smile playing on his lips, and replied: "Thank you, brother."
[Don't thank me, just treat me to fried chicken another day. Also, please don't act impulsively about Shirley. Remember what I told you last time?]
I've got it.
Okay, go ahead.
Jiang Yan locked his phone, picked up his coat, put it on, and headed towards the marketing department on the second floor.
Lin Xiaolu followed behind him, muttering, "Jung-hwan oppa is a good person, isn't he? Although he told you not to worry about it, he turned around and contacted someone for you."
"Hmm." Jiang Yan responded briefly, pushed open the door to the stairwell, and went up to the second floor.
The marketing department's office area was much busier than the production department's. The open-plan office was full of people, with the sounds of telephones ringing and keyboards clattering everywhere.
Jiang Yan gave his name and purpose at the front desk, and soon a young woman wearing round-framed glasses came out. She looked to be about twenty-seven or twenty-eight years old, with short hair that reached her ears and a capable smile.
"Kang Yeon-ssi? Chief Ahn called me just now, this is Kim Min-soo."
Jiang Yan bowed slightly and handed over his employee badge: "Hello, senior, thank you for your help."
"Aigoo, don't be so polite." Kim Min-soo waved her hand with a smile and led him towards the data analysis area. "He said you're working on a market analysis report recently. What data do you need? I'll help you get it."
Jiang Yan handed over the list he had prepared in advance. Jin Minxiu took it and glanced at it. Her gaze lingered on the column for evaluating the commercial value of artists, and then she nodded: "This data is in the marketing department's internal database. Give me ten minutes."
"Yes, thank you, senior."
