Chapter 14 Fireball!
Chapter 14 Fireball!
At a fork in the road, Melina parted ways with Liu Bei and the others.
After Melina disappeared from their sight, Liu Bei frowned and said, "I feel like something's not right."
Will suggested, "The woodland issue is more important right now. Let's deal with the woodland first and then talk about it later."
"I met Aunt Ethel that the older sister mentioned earlier in the woods. She's a really nice person; she even cooked porridge for the Tiaflins there. It tasted pretty good!" Ansel seemed to remember something and pulled a bottle of potion from his pocket, handing it to Liu Bei: "She sells this! Hill Giant Elixir. I never expected to find such a good thing in a place like this."
After Ansel's explanation, Liu Bei felt temporarily relieved, but then asked, "Does resurrection magic truly exist?"
"Yes, the fifth-circle spellbook includes resurrection, but I can't learn it; you, Liu Bei, can. Then there's the ninth-circle wish spell, which can also do that. Of course, these are a bit too far removed from our current abilities! But with your intelligence, Liu Bei, you should be able to learn fifth-circle spells very quickly! However, spellbooks for these spells are not easy to find!"
"Judging from Melina's expression, she's most likely thinking about the resurrection of the dead. Since Aunt Ethel can do that, she must be quite powerful. From what you've said, she seems to be a kind person; perhaps we can seek her help when we're fighting the goblins!"
Liu Bei then shared his thoughts.
Will and Ansel had no further opinions.
The three of them immediately stepped into the Rizhao Wetland that Melina had mentioned.
Liu Bei and Will entered the swamp first, while Ansel lingered on the shore, not stepping in.
"There's something wrong here! It shouldn't look like this!" Ansel stated his judgment.
Upon hearing this, Liu Bei also sensed that something was amiss. He noticed that the surrounding environment seemed unreal, as if it were a set, and there was an indescribable smell in the air.
Will is a seasoned adventurer and also a sorcerer, having learned a great deal from the devil.
After Liu Bei and his companion expressed their feelings, he immediately reacted, hurling out an elemental sphere he had condensed with only a tiny amount of magic. The elemental sphere exploded continuously, releasing the condensed magic that created ripples that collided and generated turbulence.
As turbulence formed, the "veil" covering the Rizhao Wetland was completely lifted!
The once sunny and lush wetland was suddenly transformed into a stinking, rotten swamp.
"Will, how did you do that!" Ansel wasn't surprised by the sudden change in the scene before him. He was very interested in the little trick Will had just played and immediately stepped forward to learn it.
Looking at the rotten swamp before him, Liu Bei couldn't help but sigh that seeing is not always believing!
This magical world is really hard to like!
After a brief moment of reflection, he urged the two to continue deeper into the swamp.
Following the paved path through the swamp, the three quickly entered the depths of the marshland.
"Turning right ahead will lead to the swamp dock that Melina mentioned." Liu Bei confirmed their location by comparing it with the surrounding landmarks. Although the scenery had changed dramatically, the original landmarks still existed, only their shapes had changed.
The once lush and leafy tree has become a dead log, and the clear, shallow pool has become a muddy swamp of the same shape.
"There's a smell of blood!" Almost simultaneously, Ansel and Will both smelled the blood hidden behind the stench.
Will, being more experienced, not only smelled the blood but also pinpointed its location: "It's not far ahead!"
"Let's go check out the situation first!" Liu Bei glanced at the isolated island in the river to his right, where a huge oak stump sat. That was their destination, right in front of them. There was no need to rush!
After walking a few steps, a campfire appeared in front of the three of them, and the strong smell of blood was coming from there.
The only things found nearby were backpacks and sleeping bags left behind by travelers, and blood scattered on the ground.
Will frowned; such situations were not uncommon in Hell.
Looking at the pool of blood, Liu Bei was filled with mixed emotions.
Why is this world so absurd!
Since crossing from that thick fog to Faerûn, apart from the time spent in the town of Daggershoal, whenever I enter the wilderness, such killings are as commonplace as drinking water.
Finding no remains at the scene, Liu Bei lost interest in searching the vicinity. He ordered Will to clean up the belongings on the ground and then dig a pit to bury them, thus creating a cenotaph to comfort the deceased.
However, they unexpectedly unearthed a box while digging the hole. The box didn't contain anything important, just dozens of gold coins and a few bottles of strong liquor.
However, the wooden box was buried underground, next to a river, and river water seeped into it. Through the bottle, one could vaguely see some sediment inside, clearly indicating that the wine was no longer drinkable. The dozens of gold coins, however, did make Ansel happy for a while.
After tidying everything up, the three of them turned back and headed towards the deserted island.
"Be careful, there seems to be a monster lurking nearby!"
Just as Liu Bei was about to jump onto the deserted island, Will gave him a timely warning.
Although he only has one eye, his eyesight is surprisingly good, and he spotted the mud bats lurking near the giant tree at a glance.
"Could there be other tree people nearby?" Ansel warned.
"Let's go take a look first and prepare for battle." Liu Bei jumped onto the isolated island first, drew his sword, and stood guard in front. Only after the two of them landed on the island did they proceed to explore further.
With Will's earlier warning, the three of them cautiously approached the giant tree.
Sure enough, several mud bats and tree people were wandering aimlessly, as if they were guarding something important.
"If we had called that druid over, we wouldn't have to deal with these troublesome guys right now."
Will pointed to the mud bats and explained, "You guys haven't experienced many adventures, so you don't know how disgusting these things are. We have to deal with these things first, otherwise they'll summon baby mud bats from this mud puddle. It'll never end, and if you kill them, they'll splatter mud all over you. Countless novice adventurers have suffered at their hands."
"No need for all that trouble, just watch my fireball!"
Ansel didn't bother listening to Will's nonsense. In his opinion, there was nothing that a fireball couldn't solve, and if there was, he'd just add another one!
Just then, Ansel saw the mud bats and treants walking together and immediately cast a fireball!
He had waited too long for this moment!
He was suffocating!
