Chapter 7 Hope
Chapter 7 Hope
The afternoon classes flew by, and before we knew it, school was over at St. George's School.
Children from wealthy families are driven to and from school by their own cars, while other students take the school bus.
Clara usually travels home with her classmates, but she didn't see Edwin on the bus today.
"Clara, where's your brother?"
"...You've been kept after school?"
She doesn't know either.
......
Alrid is increasingly convinced that once a genius's talent is revealed, it is simply unattainable for ordinary people.
Edwin Gray is the best example right now.
His ideas during class might be flashes of inspiration, but Alrid Frey was even more astonished by his incredible learning efficiency and comprehension when he received private tutoring.
Edwin could easily grasp the advanced material taught in class. In terms of knowledge, even the more difficult physical phenomena were easy to understand, and he could even expand on them to other related subjects.
In terms of calculation, as long as you give a formula and demonstrate it once, even a student who is not in a high school can perfectly replicate it with almost no calculation errors, and at the same time completely analyze the entire process of the object's motion.
Aside from his talent, there is no other word to describe Alrid.
However, all of this was within Edwin's expectations.
Alrid's lecture was something he had already learned in school, and he had a pretty good memory for it, remembering most of it. He just needed to understand it again using the current framework.
As for calculations... he's a mechanical engineer, so he often does data calculations, and he's confident in his accuracy.
"That's enough for today." Alrid sighed and put the slightly yellowed textbook back on the table.
"Thank you, teacher."
"Give me the textbook I gave you. I'll check some questions for you. I need to check it before class tomorrow."
Edwin nodded and handed over all the textbooks that Alreed had "lent" him.
Although it was called a loan, the books were actually brand new, and Edwin had made notes in them. These books were practically a gift to him.
As Alrid ticked off the questions, he estimated that at this pace, Edwin Gray would most likely be able to go through all the upper-grade material in the seven days before the school's written exams.
The grades won't even be bad...
Not long ago, Edwin was a problem student who frequently skipped classes and slept in class. He originally thought Edwin was a dullard who just drifted through school, but who would have thought...
"Edwin, you really haven't encountered this kind of content before?"
"No, teacher."
"...That's great."
After thanking Mr. Already again, Edwin left the school.
Subject progress +6......
Learning a subject through self-study is generally slower than learning with a teacher's guidance.
Overall, the decision to agree to participate in the competition was more beneficial than harmful.
Thanks to Professor Already's special care and the scholarship that would solve his financial straits, Edwin decided to dedicate most of his free time this weekend to natural philosophy.
Of course, other subjects shouldn't be neglected either.
The afternoon cleared up, and the gray industrial smog dissipated under the sunlight, revealing the city's true appearance and colors.
The sunlight was a bit dazzling, and Edwin raised his hand to shield his head.
However, there was another student standing with him at the school gate.
Her eyes were almost amber in the sunlight, her skin was slightly darker than Clara's, and her features were delicate. Even though she was wearing the same school uniform, she looked like an aristocrat who frequented high society.
Her golden hair took on a gorgeous hue under the sunlight.
Unlike her sister Clara, this student exudes a very special aura—a physique that cannot be cultivated in an ordinary family.
The bodyguard holding an umbrella for her beside her proved that she came from an extraordinary background.
An unfamiliar student.
Anyway, I can't recall finding such a person.
While you are observing the other person, the probability of them noticing you will also increase significantly.
Edwin naturally met her gaze.
He smiled slightly and nodded.
Kind of embarrassing.
Surprisingly, after nodding slightly, she got into the back seat of the car parked at the school gate and quickly disappeared from Edwin's sight.
The car I was in was a Lanchester...
After watching the person leave, his next step was to walk back.
This is the plan.
Walking home in the spring sunshine is a big undertaking, but thanks to the continuous accumulation of recovery progress, walking now seems a little easier.
But it is also very limited.
Five minutes later, she began to breathe slightly heavily.
Ten minutes later, my body got so hot that I started sweating.
After twenty minutes, my tired body started to feel sore.
The constantly popping-up recovery progress in the lower right corner was the only thing keeping me going for the past half hour.
The level of torture was comparable to the 1,000-meter physical education test in senior year of college.
The somewhat dilapidated but cozy little house was right in front of us.
As Clara opened the door, she turned around from her busy kitchen, revealing a small floral apron that she and her mother had found at a flea market.
"Brother, you're being kept after school?" Clara's tone was somewhat surprised.
This older brother only has a record of leaving early, and the school's teachers all know his character and won't make things difficult for him.
"I guess so?" Edwin asked breathlessly as he hung his clothes and hat on the hanger and poured himself a glass of water.
The water was warm, and Clara had boiled it beforehand.
"Brother, you're not the type to make mistakes, are you..." The bubbling sound of stewing came from the kitchen, which reminded Edwin of the plate of steak that had been placed in front of Newt at noon.
She just craves high-quality protein; when it comes to food flavor, no one can compare to Clara, who learned it from her mother.
The best is always the one that's your own.
"Who told you I made a mistake? The teacher will give me extra help every day after school, so you don't need to wait for me."
With a clatter, the metal cutlery slipped from Clara's hand and fell to the ground.
"It's free," Edwin added.
"Why...is this?" Clara managed to stammer out after bending down to pick up the cutlery.
"The teacher asked me to participate in a competition, and I'll have extra tutoring after school. If I win a prize, I'll get a scholarship so I can continue my studies."
Clara served the potato stew and placed it on the table, looking at Edwin with an incredulous expression: "Brother, people have to know their place. It's okay if I don't go to school. Even if I did... I wouldn't necessarily earn more."
Even his own sister, with whom he depends on each other for survival, doesn't believe him?
—Everyone knows perfectly well how mediocre Edwin was in the past.
However, when good things happen without any expectation, they seem even more surprising.
Edwin is currently starving due to the intense work of his brain and body.
He went into the kitchen and found that the sliced black bread had some strips of meat sprinkled on it, emitting a faint aroma of smoked meat.
"My aunt just gave it to me, but it's only enough for one meal," Clara explained as she crushed the remaining meat fibers.
Edwin couldn't resist reaching for the black bread slice sprinkled with black pepper and shredded salted meat.
With a "smack," Clara slapped his hand away.
"Go wash your hands first!"
