The moonlight was bright, and the evening breeze gently caressed her hair. There was a faint fragrance of lilacs in the air. Han Kexin leaned against the white marble railing of the second-floor balcony, gently swirling the red wine in her hand, but her gaze was fixed on the deep night.

"Sister, are you really going?" Han Kexin watched her sister packing her tool bag, her young face filled with worry. She asked, "They all say it's very dangerous there, and many people who went in never came out again."

"It's precisely because it's dangerous that I have to go. Otherwise, who knows how many more people will lose their lives because of this." Her older sister, Han Keyun, stuffed a stack of talismans into her handbag, checked it carefully again to make sure nothing was left behind, and then closed the handbag and placed it on the table next to the bed.

"Don't forget your sister is a witch, she's very powerful. Those demons and monsters can't hurt me." She gently patted little Han Kexin's head. Han Kexin was less than ten years old at the time, with two braids, and looked well-behaved and cute.

"But you almost got captured by that tree demon last time," Han Kexin pouted, dissatisfied. "What would I have done if you had really been captured?"

"Last time... that was just an accident. There aren't that many powerful monsters in this world. I can't possibly encounter two in a row, right? If I really can't beat them, I'll just run away. Don't worry, I definitely won't get caught." Han Keyun smiled confidently, which did give people a reliable feeling.

"In that case, I want to go with my sister so I can feel at ease." She put her hands on her hips and spoke in an adult's tone, just like a mother who was worried sick about her child.

"No, you can't." Han Keyun shook her index finger in front of her. "Kexin is still young and can't go to such a dangerous place."

"Hmph, you still went even though you knew it was dangerous." Han Kexin was very dissatisfied with her sister's arrangement.

"This is my responsibility. You'll understand when you grow up." Han Keyun smiled and gently scratched her nose with her index finger.

"Hmph, you always treat me like a child. I'm all grown up now, not a child anymore. You never listen to what I say, so I'm not going to bother with you anymore." With that, she turned and ran out the door.

"Don't go too far, it's almost dinner time," Han Keyun reminded him from behind, then shook her head helplessly.

"You just won't listen." Han Kexin took a thin twig and kept hitting a bush by the roadside while muttering to herself, "You always say I'm a child, but I don't know who's always causing me trouble."

It was early summer, and the weather wasn't too hot yet. Cicadas were already chirping in the bushes from time to time, and a gentle breeze brought a touch of coolness. She continued to whip the roadside grass while fuming under her breath.

As she was looking down in thought, she suddenly saw a shadow slowly approaching her from below. She looked up and saw a man sitting alone on the edge of the apartment building's rooftop. The sun was setting, and the man was turned to the side, leaving a long shadow that reached right at her feet.

Han Kexin glanced at the other person, her eyes darting around in their sockets, and suddenly had an idea. She dropped the branch in her hand and quickly ran towards the rooftop.

When she reached the rooftop, she saw him sitting on the edge, holding a can of beer, staring blankly at the sunset. Beside him were several unopened cans of beer and three or four empty soda cans.

Han Kexin, with her hands behind her back, slowly walked to a spot five steps away from the other person and asked, "Hey, what are you doing here?"

She waited for a while, but when the other person didn't respond, she got a little angry and asked again, "Hey, I'm talking to you!"

"I don't call it feeding," the man said calmly, his gaze never leaving the setting sun.

"So what's your name?" she asked curiously.

"Xiao Yan." Xiao Yan said, tilting his head back to take another sip of beer. His profile was clearly defined in the setting sun, and he looked quite handsome. His skin was very fair, especially his hand holding the soda can, which was long, slender, and fair, even more beautiful than her hand.

"Xiao Yan," she repeated, "It's a nice name. You must be very powerful, right? Are you also a demon slayer?"

"What is a demon slayer?"

"A demon slayer is a demon slayer, right? If you say that, then you're definitely not one." Han Kexin lowered her head and pondered for a moment before saying, "If you're so powerful but not a demon slayer, then what's your purpose here?"

"I'm looking for an answer."

"What's the answer?"

He turned to look at her, smiled slightly, and said, "You wouldn't understand even if I told you."

"I'm not a child!" she stomped her feet angrily. "You all treat me like a child, but I know everything."

Xiao Yan continued drinking his beer, gazing at the sunset, completely ignoring her words.

Han Kexin saw two sparrows fly across the sky and land on a row of straight power lines, which looked like musical staves from a distance. She took two steps closer to them, holding up an empty soda can with her foot, and asked, "Could you do me a favor?"

Upon hearing this, Xiao Yan looked at the young girl with great interest and asked, "Oh? How can I help you?"

"My sister is going to Mount Jiwei, could you go with her?"

"Mount Jiwei?" Xiao Yan frowned. "What's she doing there?"

"She is a witch who helps the villagers exorcise demons."

Xiao Yan took another sip of beer and asked, "Did she send you to find me?"

"No, it's because I don't trust her. Once she agrees to do something for someone else, she doesn't care about her own safety."

"Since it's not her wish, I won't agree to it," Xiao Yan said casually.

"Didn't you save her before? What's wrong with helping her again this time?" Han Kexin didn't give up.

"I just happened to be passing by last time; it was fate that brought us together."

"Since you two are destined to be together, you should help her even more."

"Fate, fate, is arranged by destiny, and cannot be forced," he said calmly.

"My sister even saved you!" she said, sounding a little angry.

He said expressionlessly, "Then she has just repaid my favor. We are even now, and have nothing to do with each other."

"Are you just going to stand by and watch her go to her death?"

He remained nonchalant, saying, "A person's fortune and misfortune are all predetermined. If she truly has this calamity, it is her fate."

"You're so cold-blooded and heartless, it's a waste of my time to save you." Han Kexin stomped her feet in anger.

The other party did not argue, but simply gazed at the mountains in the twilight and murmured, "Heaven and earth are ruthless, treating all things like straw dogs; the sage is ruthless, treating the people like straw dogs."

Seeing that the other person had stopped talking, Han Kexin took two more steps closer to him, peeked downstairs, and finally mustered up her courage, hugged her knees, and sat down opposite Xiao Yan.

Xiao Yan glanced at her sideways and asked, "What are you doing sitting here?"

"I'm looking for an answer," she said, mimicking the other person's tone.

"Oh? What answer are you looking for?" he asked curiously.

"I'm thinking about how I can get you to go to Mount Jiwei with my sister," she said earnestly.

"It's no use thinking about it. Whether I go or not is up to me." Xiao Yan shook his head, clearly telling the other party not to waste their energy.

She was about to speak when she heard her sister calling her to eat, so she had to stop talking and leave.
