Revelation of the Way of Heaven

Chapter 189 Past Events

Chapter 189 Past Events

"May the Lord bless us, Amen." After Father Mo Qi finished praying, he made the sign of the cross on his chest with his right hand.

"Dad, will the Lord really protect us?" the 8-year-old boy asked, looking up at him.

Mo Qi gently patted his head and said, "Yes, the Lord is always with us. He has always been guiding us. Xiao Yu, you must remember that the Son of Man is not far away. He is very, very close to us."

Then he patted the boy's chest and said, "Remember what I told you. As long as you wear this pendant, those monsters can't hurt you. You're a man, and even if you're alone, you must be brave."

"Yes, Xiaoyu, don't be afraid." The boy nodded seriously.

The man looked at the boy with relief and said gently, "Then Xiaoyu will stay here by himself and not go anywhere. Daddy will go down and get rid of those monsters."

"Okay, Dad, keep it up!" The boy excitedly raised his fist to cheer him on. At this moment, in his eyes, his father was like Sun Wukong, the Monkey King in those comic books who slays demons, and he was Tang Sanzang, who was protected by Sun Wukong. However, he was smarter than Tang Sanzang. No matter what happened, he would not leave the room, so that the monsters could not eat him.

The boy didn't know how long he waited, but his father never came back. Just as he was about to fall asleep, there was a sound outside the door. The boy was very happy and was about to run to the door when he heard the person outside turn the doorknob. The door didn't open, and then the person started banging on the door.

The boy quickly realized that the person outside wasn't his father, because his father knew where the key was.

Fear instantly gripped his heart. With each impact from outside, the fear deepened. The boy huddled in the corner, his eyes fixed on the door, not daring to make a sound.

"Get out of here, get out of here!" the boy prayed incessantly, but his prayers had no effect. The noise outside grew louder and louder, and a large hole was smashed through the door by a fist.

The sounds of impact continued, reaching the boy's ears. He instinctively clutched the pendant around his neck, and his father's words echoed clearly in his ears.

"If anyone tries to attack you, hold onto this pendant and use the spell I taught you," his father told him.

The door was finally opened wide, and the person outside reached in and easily turned the lock. The door opened, and standing outside was a man with bloodshot eyes and a pair of long, sharp teeth that made the boy's scalp tingle.

The man approached the boy step by step. The boy was so nervous that he could hardly breathe. The man reached out, grabbed the boy's clothes, and easily lifted him up.

The boy clutched the cross to his chest, trying to recite the spell his father had taught him, but fear gripped his throat like a giant hand, preventing him from uttering a single word.

The boy heard a gurgling sound coming from the other man's throat, and then the man opened his mouth wide and bit down on his throat. The boy closed his eyes in fright, thinking he was going to die, when a dagger pierced through the man's head, the tip of the dagger protruding from the man's mouth, gleaming with a chilling light.

"What a poor child." The vampire man collapsed to the ground, revealing three people behind him, one of whom, a woman, looked at the boy with some sympathy.

"Becoming an orphan at such a young age is even worse than when I was a child," said a man wearing a plaid long shirt and light blue jeans.

"Didn't you become an orphan when you were three years old?" the woman asked, puzzled.

"So he's even worse off than me. His parents died early, so he doesn't have many painful memories," the man said with a sigh.

"Stop talking nonsense and check if the child is injured," said another man who seemed to be the leader.

The woman pulled the child over and looked him up and down to make sure he wasn't hurt. Throughout the whole process, the boy held tightly to the cross on his chest, trembling as he looked at the three people, clearly quite frightened.

"Hey kid, my name is Kang Li, this is Lia, and this is Owen." The second man pointed to the two who had just been arguing and introduced them. "We are all demon hunters. What's your name?"

"Mo...Mo Yu," the boy stammered.

"Do you have any other relatives?" Kang Li asked.

"I have a dad," the boy whispered.

"The one downstairs?" Lia asked, frowning.

"Yes." The boy nodded; he knew his father had been fighting those monsters downstairs.

"He's dead," Kang Li said calmly. The boy didn't fully understand the true meaning of death at that moment and just stared blankly at him.

"Do you have any other relatives?" Kang Li asked again, but the latter seemed to be in a daze, just standing there without saying a word.

"Sigh." Kang Li sighed and said, "If you don't have one, you'll have to come with us from now on."

"If anyone dares to bully you in the future, just tell me, and I'll definitely beat them up for you. Follow us, and we'll never let you suffer any injustice," Owen said with a wide grin.

"Why are you telling him all this? He doesn't understand anyway." Liya glared at him, then smiled and said to Xiao Moyu, "How about I buy you a lollipop later? I'll buy you lots and lots of lollipops and toys in the future."

The boy understood these words. He finally realized that he was leaving his father and would never see him again. Overwhelmed with emotion, he burst into tears and couldn't stop crying.

"Look at you, it's all your fault. You were fine just now," Owen complained.

"How can you blame me? I was just trying to coax him and make him more accepting of us," the girl retorted apologetically.

"Okay, okay, I know you're upset. If you want to cry, just have a good cry." In the end, Lia couldn't bear it anymore and hugged the boy, gently stroking his head to comfort him.

Mo Yu couldn't remember what happened after that. In his later memories, all he could clearly remember was that most painful moment and that warmest embrace.
