Chapter 164: Vigi Bros?
Chapter 164: Vigi Bros?
For the next few days after that, I was basically just attending meeting after meeting, most of the time with Olivia though there were a few times where I attended by myself.
Most of them I was only present to have a better understanding of what was going on around the island and not an active participant.
They would sometimes get my opinion on some things and I would offer it to the best of my abilities.
Incidentally, Olivia seemed to have a meeting with the Guardians separately to talk about something but I wasn’t aware of what the contents were about.
Speaking of which, I still can’t get used to how big my room was.
Even just the first floor alone made it bigger than my entire family’s house and that was pretty scary to think about since I wasn’t used to such luxuries.
But aside from attending these meetings, there wasn’t really anything else for me to do so I ended up going right back to doing vigilante work back on the mainland.
Since I could teleport using the doors, I didn’t need to trouble anyone when I teleported myself back in the middle of the night.
While there wasn’t a lot of crime in the city, there were still a few criminals that had to be dealt with so I beat them up and called the police on them.
On one such night where I was going to teleport back to the mainland for a night of vigilante activities, I found myself being approached by someone I didn’t expect.
"Mortal God..." Sergei greeted me, the guy having literally appeared from the shadows as I was returning back to my room. "You have been heading back to the mainland, have you?"
"Huh? Oh, yes I have. Do you need something?"
He paused for a moment as though considering his words before he spoke again, "You are the ’Hooded Fighter’ are you not?"
It took me a moment to realise what he was talking about.
I checked around us to make sure there was no one else around before whispering, "You know?"
He gave me a curt nod, "I saw you by chance the other night when you went to beat up a gang that was harassing a business. You used my shadow power to restrain one of them."
I guess he would recognise his own ability just by seeing it and all of my Guardians knew that I could use their abilities as my own so it was obvious who it was to them if they saw that.
I nodded, "I see... Also... Is that what they’re calling me?"
"You go out in a hoodie to hide your face and you beat your enemies up with your fists... Guess that’s what the streets decided to call you."
I guess since I wasn’t using any flashy skills, there’s not much for people to use as a name to identify me.
"So what’s this about? Are you here to tell me to stop or something?" I asked.
He shook his head, "I was wondering if you would be able to teleport me with you to the mainland as well? It is more difficult for me to go there myself."
I raised an eyebrow at him, "You want to teleport back as well? What for?"
"So that I can also resume my vigilante activities as well."
I blinked at him, "Could I ask why you still want to work as a vigilante?"
For some reason, I could sense that he was smiling underneath that mask of his, "I suspect that it’s for the same reason as you are, Mortal God. I want to protect people from lowlifes."
"Huh... No offense but... I’m surprised you would want to do this considering your... You know... Your past work."
He nodded, "I understand the confusion, Mortal God. I may have been a contract killer in the past, but I will not turn my back on my community. There’s always people who need help and sometimes, the help comes from the shadows."
Well... I at least understood that he’s serious about this.
"Does anyone else know?" I asked.
He shook his head, "I do not believe any of the other Guardians have caught on, Mortal God."
"I see... In that case, I’m just about to go on another patrol, you up for it tonight?"
"It would be my ho--"
"Ara, ara? This is a rare sight~"
Both Sergei and I turned to see Ava strutting over to us with a mischievous smile on her lips.
"What might you two be talking about?"
""Nothing,"" Both Sergei And I spoke at the same time.
Ava only smiled at us and placed a finger on her lips, "I believe my Divine is able to do whatever he wants but Sergei... You should take care that your activities aren’t found out by Olivia~"
She definitely knows what we’re up to somehow.
She giggled when she saw my face, "Ufufufu~ There’s no need to worry my Divine~ My lips are sealed~ Especially when you’re the one sealing them~"
Without warning, she leaned forward and pulled me in for a deep kiss, her tongue pushing past my lips to curl around mine and letting out a lascivious moan before letting me go.
She pulled back, the salvia bridge between our lips holding for a split second before it broke and she licked her lips to clean it up.
She then gave me a not so subtle wink before she sashayed away, intentionally swaying her hips more than normal as she walked.
Sergei intentionally averted his gaze from her to look in the opposite direction as he spoke to me, "Da... Do you know what we call women like her back at my old place?"
"What?"
"Medovaya lovushka. Honey traps."
"Well... I would say that she’s different considering she isn’t trying to get information or something out of me."
"She’s a mage, Mortal God. They work with and also against creatures and beings from both divine and demonic. They always get something out of this."
"You sound like you speak from experience?"
"I’ve had plenty of run-ins with beings like her. Many powerful men have been brought to their knees by a pretty woman and I dare say that Miss Avatasia might be the prettiest woman I’ve ever come across."
"You’ve met plenty of mages?"
"Da. Although not to her level of power of course. She’s on a whole other level compared to all of them."
He then gestured that we should head towards the lift that led to my penthouse.
I followed him inside and he waited until the doors closed before he spoke again.
"I won’t tell you who you spend your nights with, Mortal God. But I would just caution you to be careful of who you bring to your bed. Some might not have your best interest at heart and even your divinity might not be able to protect you against their schemes."
I turned to raise an eyebrow at him, "I’m honestly surprised that you would go that far though. No offense but... I don’t think we’re that close yet, are we?"
"I offer my loyalty to the one who has hired me to work for them. Right now, you are my boss and you have my loyalty until you have given me reason otherwise to turn against you. That is my principle."
I grinned, "I see... In that case, I suppose I should work to make sure that I am worthy of that loyalty of yours."
"You do not need to worry, Mortal God. From what I can see so far, if you do not change your path, there is no reason for me to stop supporting you."
"That’s reassuring to hear."
The door opened without a sound and the both of us stepped out.
I had already given all my Guardians expressed permission to be in hear so there wouldn’t be a repeat of what happened with Olivia the last time.
Sergei sucked in a deep breath before breathing out, "This still feels amazing no matter how many times I see it."
I looked up at the penthouse in front of me, "I know right? This place is huge. Hard to imagine that this was supposed to be made for me to live in..."
He shook his head, "That’s not what I’m talking about, Mortal God. It’s the domain that you have created here. To think that you could create something like this in just a short time after becoming a Mortal God... It truly is amazing. I’m quite sure that you would eventually reach the top amongst even the Mortal Gods."
"Olivia said something similar too..."
"And she’s a very smart woman. Scarily smart too. Even I dare not to cross her."
Well... Considering she’s able to rip you into two with her bare hands, I can see why.
Sergei turned to nod at me, "Now... I suppose we should get started? Do you have specific areas where you patrol?"
"No, I just go where my instincts tell me to."
"Fair enough. Then you can just drop me off wherever. I will find my way."
Alright then. I guess this makes us Vigilante bros?
