Chapter 258: The Mistbound Counterattack
Chapter 258: The Mistbound Counterattack
The Mistbound Counterattack
When the skeletal warriors were nearing them, Lane with blinding speed charged at them. A punch to shatter their ribs, a kick to blow away their skulls. Lane with blinding speed and fluent movement was a force to be reckoned with. Coupled with the fact she used some attack spells when she had time to do so, made her look like a tornado passing through enemy ranks.
The forest shook from the clash.
Broken bones flew through the air while shattered branches crashed to the ground.
Lane moved like a shadow among the undead.
A skeleton thrust its spear toward her chest.
She sidestepped smoothly.
Her fist slammed into its ribcage.
Crunch!
The entire upper body exploded apart.
Without stopping, she spun and drove a kick into another skeleton’s skull. The head flew through the air and smashed into a tree trunk.
"Keep advancing!" one of the warriors shouted.
"Lady Lane is opening a path!"
The morale of the defenders rose instantly.
Everywhere she moved, undead warriors collapsed.
A fireball suddenly appeared in her palm.
She threw it into a cluster of approaching undead.
Boom!
Flames erupted.
Several skeletons were blasted apart while zombies were thrown backward.
Lane didn’t even look at the result.
She was already moving toward her next target.
The warriors fighting beside her were falling for her beautiful form as she fought the enemy with powerful yet graceful movement, coupled with her attractive proportions, and beautiful face she looked like a divine warrior.
One young warrior nearly forgot to swing his weapon.
His companion immediately smacked the back of his helmet.
"Idiot! Focus!"
"I am focusing!"
"You’re staring!"
The young warrior coughed awkwardly before smashing a skeleton with his mace.
"Can you blame me? Look at her!"
Ahead of them, Lane leaped into the air and landed among several undead.
Her movements were elegant yet deadly.
Like a dancer performing on a battlefield.
A veteran fighter laughed.
"If she heard you saying that, she’d probably punch you harder than those skeletons."
The group burst into nervous laughter before returning to the fight.
Even in the middle of a desperate battle, Lane’s presence gave them hope.
She wasn’t just strong.
She was proof that the enemy could bleed.
Or in this case, break.
When both Eon and Lane side were getting wonderful results from their ambush, the undead mages appeared and started firing mid-level spells. Most of the warriors in the front couldn’t evade or defend themselves from the attack and were killed on the spot.
The tide of battle shifted instantly.
Several dark-robed undead emerged from deeper within the enemy ranks.
Green and purple mana gathered around their staffs.
Lane’s eyes narrowed.
"Mages!"
A heartbeat later, spells rained down.
Stone spears.
Wind blades.
Corrupted fireballs.
Boom!
Boom!
Boom!
Screams erupted across the battlefield.
A warrior beside Lane was struck by three stone spikes and collapsed instantly.
Another fighter tried to raise his shield only for a fireball to engulf him.
Several defenders disappeared beneath explosions.
Blood stained the forest floor.
The brief advantage they had gained vanished in moments.
"Damn it!" Lane cursed.
Far away on the opposite flank, Eon saw the destruction as well.
His grip tightened around his giant battle axe.
The mages with Eon, and Lane’s group tried their best to protect the warriors but they were being overwhelmed by the sheer number of the enemy undead mages.
"Barrier!"
"Raise another barrier!"
"We don’t have enough mana!"
Several human mages desperately cast defensive spells.
Layers of earth walls rose from the ground.
Water shields formed.
Wind barriers spun.
Yet every defense was shattered beneath relentless bombardment.
One exhausted mage dropped to a knee.
"There are too many of them..."
Another mage wiped blood from the corner of his mouth.
"We only need to buy time."
"Then let’s buy every second we can."
They resumed casting despite their exhaustion.
The forest trembled beneath the exchange of magic.
Trees exploded.
The ground cracked apart.
Smoke filled the battlefield.
Eon who finally saw the undead mages appearing smiled, he disregarded the undead warriors in front and simply charged at the undead mages at the back. Lane did the same thing, but unlike Eon’s reckless charge while taking hits, Lane was able to bypass the frontlines with her speed and use of Shadow spells, from the branch of darkness magic.
Eon grinned fiercely.
"There you are."
Instead of slowing down, he accelerated.
An undead knight blocked his path.
His giant battle axe descended.
Boom!
Both the knight and skeletal horse exploded apart.
Another undead tried to stop him.
Then another.
Then ten more.
Eon simply smashed through all of them.
Blood from minor wounds trickled down his arms.
A bone spear pierced his shoulder.
He ignored it.
A sword sliced his side.
He ignored that too.
His eyes were locked onto the enemy mages.
Meanwhile, Lane vanished.
Darkness wrapped around her figure.
Shadow magic flowed across the battlefield.
Several undead searched for her location.
Too late.
She appeared behind an undead mage.
Crack!
Its skull shattered beneath her fist.
Another turned.
A blade of darkness cut through its neck.
The mage collapsed immediately.
"You think you’re safe hiding back here?" Lane muttered.
Her eyes flashed coldly.
One by one, the enemy mages fell.
Eon and Lane were able to defeat quite several undead mages, it was then the enemy force had successfully surrounded them. As they were about to be bombarded from all sides, a thick layer of mist enveloped the area.
The undead adapted quickly.
New forces moved inward.
Thousands of skeletal warriors closed the gap.
Undead knights blocked escape routes.
More mages arrived.
For the first time, the situation became truly dangerous.
Lane landed beside Eon.
"We’re surrounded."
Eon spat blood onto the ground.
"I noticed."
Several dozen spells began forming around them.
Death was only moments away.
Then—
A thick white mist rolled across the battlefield.
The forest disappeared.
Visibility dropped instantly.
The undead army slowed.
Even Alibaba’s forces lost sight of their targets.
"What happened?"
