As the week continued, Hermione did her best to compete with her rival but it was getting difficult.
She also noticed Harry was becoming more and more irritated with his detention, but she couldn't for the life of her figure out why if it was only Lines.
To occupy her time, she did Patrol the night before on Thursday, Lucifer had gone with her, she asked him if he was planning to still touch another her tonight, he said yes.
It was silent and awkward after that, she felt replaced.
They came across a Sixth and Fourth Year hiding in a broom cupboard, a Hufflepuff and a Gryffindor, and Ten Points from both Houses had been taken off.
Hermione remembered the one time she had been in one with Lucifer, but they had gone back in time and couldn't afford the time for any tomfoolery.
That night she was bound to the wall upside down, mouth removed, helpless watching Lucifer and another self of her making love......
Friday came with a false ray of hope, she was again neglected.
On Saturday, the first ten minutes after most students woke up had sunshine.
It became sullen and sodden, just as rest of the week had been.
The only real saving grace for the day was the Keeper Tryouts, but that did nothing really for Harry or Hermione.
Lucifer knew that Ron was trying out for Keeper, but he was the only one that he knew of, and until Ron revealed it to his other two friends, it was going to remain that way.
"On the bright side, this is your last day of detention," Hermione said to Harry as they sat down for dinner after classes that evening.
"All the good it does me since I'm missing the Keeper Tryouts..." Harry grumbled.
"Well, just don't get detention again and you'll be able to go to practices," Hermione shrugged as it was the logical lines of thought.
"Yeah..." Harry agreed, but she felt it was mainly just so she would shut up.
She huffed, but said nothing else to him.
When Harry left for his detention, Hermione went out of the Great Hall to go down to the Quidditch Pitch to watch the tryouts.
Naturally, she expected to see Lucifer down there, 'Probably just to see Katie play, though... typical male...'
Hermione arrived at the Pitch, and she did indeed see Lucifer sitting out there already.
She went and sat beside him, "Good evening," said politely.
"Evening, Hermione, come to see who makes Keeper?" Lucifer asked her.
"No, I want to stare at you.” She said bluntly.
Lucifer in response turned his face over to look at Ron who was trying out for Keeper.
“???” Hermione, she did stare at him; he was still insanely beautiful, and she would always think that about him.
'Maybe he deserves better... someone like Emma who doesn't have a horrible mouth, someone who will not insult his friends....' She exhaled, garnering attention.
"Something wrong?" he asked.
"It's me... when isn't something wrong?"
Lucifer glanced at her, but she looked down at her knees.
The tryouts started soon, the other two potential Keepers, named Vicky Frobisher and Geoffrey Hooper, went before Ron.
Lucifer found very quickly that Hooper complained and whined, a lot.
He wasn't bad, but his whining was unbearable.
Vicky was good at her attempts, but announced that if Practice got in the way of her Charms Club, she chose the Club every time.
Lucifer knew that wouldn't get her on the team, so as long as Ron didn't do atrociously, he should easily get Keeper.
"....Maybe I should try beater?" Hermione asked more to herself.
No response, it really started to hurt Hermione's ego now.
"Harry... have you noticed him behaving... odd or different?" She asked, trying to change topic, hoping he would respond to her.
"He has, but if he wants to tell us, he'll tell us. We can't make him," Lucifer said.
He didn't agree with his own words, he wanted to sit Harry down in a chair and use Veritaserum or break into his mind to gather the info, but that wasn't an ideal thing to do.
Besides, he had his own secrets he hadn't told Harry, so of course he wouldn't make Harry tell him something that his scar-headed friend didn't want him to know.
"I guess so..." Hermione knew he was right, but she also knew that it wasn't.
They watched Ron give it his all during the tryouts, and he did much better than what really anyone would've expected.
Not the greatest, and he honestly might perform worse in an actual match, but he performed the best out of the three.
After tryouts, a party was going to be thrown regardless of who won, but it was more enjoyable with Ron having become Gryffindor's new Keeper.
Hermione didn't ever really care much for the parties, so she resolved to sit next to the fireplace with Lucifer across from her, a butterbeer in his hands.
Ron walked up to them, "Can you believe it? I made Keeper!"
No response.
“Merlin, can you both stop oogling at each other for just once?” Ron looked towards the Entrance to the Common Room, "Harry must be back, I'm going to tell him the good news," he said in a slightly higher voice than he was a moment ago.
It wasn't louder, but it was higher pitched.
'Weasely must know something we don't...' Lucifer thought while staring at Hermione, who was now emptily looking at the burning fireplace with regret.
Harry walked up to them after Ron was called over by Katie to see if Oliver's robes would fit him.
Lucifer would be a little surprised if they did, given how tall and lanky Ron was getting.
"Hey," Harry said as he sat down across from them.
“I am sorry,” Hermione said in a slurred speech from how lonely she was feeling.
???
Harry don't know what to say for a second, he noticed Hermione's eyes were a little teary and she was looking at Lucifer's cro-----
“• •” “S-So just before I left Umbridge's office, she touched my arm...” Harry felt incredible after witnessing this kind of shameless behaviour.
Hearing this, somehow Hermione and Lucifer both listened closely to what Harry was saying to them.
When Harry finished, Hermione said slowly, "You're worried that Voldemort is controlling her the way he controlled Quirrell?"
"Well," Harry said, dropping his voice, "it's possible, isn't it?"
"I guess..." Hermione said, but her voice was unconvinced.
"I don't think he's possessing her, not in the way he was with Quirrell, at least," Lucifer said, "in fact I honestly don't think he's got anything to do with this. I mean, he's properly alive again, what need would he have for possession?"
"I guess it's possible she's under the Imperius Curse, but..." Hermione trailed off, "your scar has hurt since last year when no one was touching you, Harry."
"Voldemort's influence was much weaker last year," Lucifer said, "and Dumbledore said it had to do with what he was feeling at the time. Maybe it has something to do with the scar he left you the first time he tried to kill you... it was probably just a coincidence that Voldemort was feeling something when she touched your arm?"
"She's evil," Harry said flatly, "twisted."
"Why do you say that? What happened during detention?" Lucifer asked.
Hermione saw the look on Harry's face as he didn't look Lucifer in the eye.
She didn't know what was going on in Umbridge's detentions, but it was clearly not something Lucifer should know about, "Nothing, just from how she was during my hearing at the Ministry," Harry answered.
Hermione looked at Lucifer, and his eyes were looking at Harry analytically.
She looked back to Harry and thought to herself, 'I want to know what happened... Harry lied just now, Lucifer knows he did as well, but if Harry doesn't want to tell us, then we can't press him...'
"Fine," Lucifer said, "you don't wanna tell us, don't."
"But you should tell Dumbledore your scar hurt, Harry," Hermione said to him.
"I'm not bothering him with this, besides, it wasn't even that bad-"
"That's not the point, Harry, the fact it hurt at all says Voldemort is feeling something. What that is, it's impossible to say, but you have to tell Dumbledore," Lucifer said.
"Yeah, he'd want to be bother by this-"
"That's all he seems to care about me anymore, isn't it?" Harry said stiffly, "my scar."
"That's not true, Harry, Dumbledore cares about you," Hermione said calmly.
"I think I'll write to Sirius about it, see what he thinks-"
"If anything, that's not something that should be put into writing... is there another way to talk to him or convey it to him without arousing suspicion?" Lucifer asked.
"Actually... there is, yeah, I know how to talk to him without risk of Owl interception," Harry said, looking thankfully at him.
"Good. He should know, definitely," Lucifer smiled at his friend.
Hermione actually gave the boy with glasses an envious look.
“...... well, I'm going to go to bed, try to get an early rise, lots of homework I've not been able to get done," Harry said and stood up, bidding them good night.
Hermione sighed and slumped back into her chair, “... I've not felt even remotely energetic for the past hour...”
"You should go to bed, then," Lucifer said to her.
“Isn't that just your way of saying that you are not going to make love to me.....” she yawned and stretched, unknowingly being cute while doing so, and stood up, "Well, just tie me up. That's all you felt doing to me anyway.”
She walked up the girl's staircase, and changed paths to reach area of their private quarters.
