Chapter 82 The End of the Trial (edited)
She didn't know what it was. It was soft and... smooth?
Whatever it was, it tasted strangely sweet as she unconsciously moved her lips against it.
She couldn't tell what the taste was... a mix between a sweet strawberry and a sugary peach.
She had the urge to open her eyes, but somewhere deep inside her, she felt like it wouldn't be wise.
Suddenly, whatever it was pressed against her lips even more, moving against it briefly. That was when she felt something gently hold the side of her face, hinting at her to pull back.
Lillian slowly opened her sparkly blue eyes and gazed deeply into an intimate pair of dark red ones, which stared back at her tremblingly.
Marionette's long, glossy black hair lay splayed across the rough, uneven ground like black webs with them trapped together in the centre.
Lillian then glanced towards Marionette's hand, holding her cheek, before slowly drifting down to their lips... which were tightly pressed together.
Lillian widened her eyes in shock.
The damn necklace of hers had caused this to happen!
She eventually pulled back, separating their lips from each other before staring down at Marionette, who shielded the bottom half of her face with her arm.
Marionette turned her head to the side, almost as though she refused to meet Lillian in the eyes, causing Lillian to tremble a bit in fear.
"S-sorry... I didn't mean to," Lillian's apology was cut short as Marionette chimed in with a surprising stutter in her voice.
"I-Its... fine..." she quietly muttered before going silent for a moment and then continuing, "L-let's just... exit this Trial..."
Marionette then slowly turned her gaze back to Lillian and found her staring at her with an odd pinkish face.
It wasn't the usual embarrassing blush Lillian would usually have for similar interactions like this, but... one of...
Lillian grinned.
"Are you blushing~?"
Teasingness...
Lillian's face reddened in amusement at the thought that Marionette was blushing at their accidental kiss.
But she was also strangely aroused by it as well.
Marionette widened her eyes, still keeping her arm over the lower half of her face, before shouting:
"D-don't be so r-ridiculous, Lillian! Now, would you kindly get off me?!" Marionette's unusual outburst, filled with emotions, caught Lillian off guard.
But...
'So this is how I tease you~...' Lillian smiled widely in an almost sadistic manner before pressing her body closer against Marionette's chest, which caused her to stiffen slightly.
"Aww~ but aren't you always talking about wanting to get close directly to me?" Lillian giggled, her voice playful and teasing.
She then began to slowly move her face closer towards Marionette, who continued to stare at her in shock.
"So~?"
"S-stop right this instant, Lillian...."
The Jester then paused—a resounding ticking sound then echoed mysteriously...
Tick! Tick! Tick!
It was like her Mana Realm had just installed a ticking clock that seemingly caused the world to tremble slightly.
Tick! Tick...! Tick...
The once serene surface of the ocean now formed travelling rings of water that lightly tapped at Lillian's shoes.
Tick..! Tick... Tick...
The clouds, supposedly breaking apart, albeit at an excruciatingly slow rate.
Tick... Tick... Tick...
The magical light that lit up the world—without an obvious source—dimmed.
The ticking went on for what felt like hours. However, the intervals between each had increased noticeably. It ticked, and it ticked... until eventually slowing down...
Lillian sat boredly on the surface of the water, cross-legged and resting the side of her face in her palm.
'This is taking so long... when will it end?' she internally prayed before grumbling in dissatisfaction, "This is the exact reason why I hate watching boring and long-ass cutsce—"
Eventually, her mental prayer was answered at the cost of her being cut off by the Jester's booming voice.
[The Gods have decided on your boon, which they believe would bring them the most joy as you struggle with it.]
Lillian rolled her eyes at the Jester's words. 'No new lines, huh? Wait...' her eyes then widened before gazing up at the sky.
"This is the cutscene for an elem—"
[Rise, Lillian Ker Arius—the Pathetic Rabbit of Fated Truths—and claim your boon... for this chapter in your life has reached its end.]
Lillian stared up at the sky, squinting as she spotted something of sparkling light barrelling towards her.
She then blinked, finding herself in the centre of a starry column of light that reflected countless colours into her eyes.
She then looked past the column of light and stared into the deep expanse of a dark world, filled with numerous pillars of light just like hers.
Dozens... Hundreds... possibly even thousands were shown stretching towards the sky with more constantly appearing to join in the army of light.
'The Upper Top...' Lillian stared in wonder before her eyes flashed with an unsatisfied expression, "What a shitty name to name such a place."
This is what she wanted to say, but nothing left her out of her moving lips like someone had shut off her voice.
Like someone had muted the entire world, but she knew it was because this place had no air for her voice to travel through.
Despite this worrying feature of the Upper Top, she could still breathe... she think... her organs still operated properly... she think... she was still alive... she think...
That last part was definite, though.
However, even though this world was in complete silence, a cacophony of thunderous roars erupted, plunging the world in a state of peril but also radiance.
Soon enough, Lillian became unable to see past the column of light she was carried in.
Deciding there was no point in trying to admire something she could no longer, she stared up, watching as her vision was filled with nothing but utter light.
