The Birth of A Volleyball Legend

Chapter 209 Midterm Exam?

Chapter 209 Midterm Exam?

Meanwhile, not far from the sophomore players, the freshmen gathered around Akira, who said he wanted to talk. At first, they thought Akira would want to discuss their arrangements since they also had to go to the Tokyo Thunder U-19. However, the topic of conversation was far from that. No, Akira simply asked a question that triggered a memory from the recent past that Yuki had somehow forgotten about.

"Have you thought about joining the training camp at Konan High that you were invited to?"

"Training camp at Konan High?" Riku asked, stunned.

Akira blinked his eyes repeatedly for a moment, looking at him confusedly. Then, he turned his gaze to Yuki, asking, "Did you forget to tell him about the invitation?"

Yuki could only rub the back of his neck sheepishly. "Well, in my defense, this month has been pretty chaotic, so I kind of forgot what Matsumoto-san told me about that." Riku gave him a deadpan stare in response.

Still, Yuki didn't lie about that. Indeed, he had forgotten about the invitation from Konan's captain. But when Akira mentioned it, a memory suddenly flashed into his mind about the conversation he had with Konan's captain after the game a month ago.Nôv(el)B\\jnn

'A training camp held for talented freshmen from all over Tokyo to ensure their opponents can give them a challenge? How arrogant,' he muttered with disdain.

Still, since they were the ten-time Inter-High champions in a row and the undisputed best team in Japan at the moment, Konan High had every right to be arrogant like that. After all, while being part of a super team like that comes with its own pressures, if the opponent always gives up the moment their name is shown, it would be difficult to motivate their players to stay on top.

"So, what do you think, Yuki? Riku? Do you want to join the camp?" Akira asked again, snapping Yuki from his thoughts.

The two boys turned their heads toward each other, and the moment their eyes met, they both knew the decision they wanted to make. "Sure, let's jump into the fun," Riku grinned excitedly.

"But you have to help me, Kato-san!" Riku cried indignantly. "If I can't pass the exam, I won't be able to join the training camp! Hell, I won't even be able to train with the Tokyo Thunder!"

Yeah, it was unfortunate, but the training camp held by Konan High coincidentally started at the same time as the supplementary class. If Riku couldn't pass even one of his classes, he would have to attend supplementary classes, and that was something even Akira couldn't help him with. After all, Riku was a student first before being a volleyball player, so this should be his main priority.

Honestly, Yuki didn't want to deal with this. He always believed that everything people did had consequences, and right now, Riku was just facing the consequences of his laziness. However, when he saw the pitiful state of his blonde friend and remembered that they were supposed to be comrades in arms, he finally sighed deeply and said, "Fine, you win, bastard!"

"Eh?" Both his friends snapped their heads toward him, looking at him in disbelief.

"Fine, you win!" Yuki repeated. "We will help you prepare for the exam. BUT!" He raised his hand, stopping Riku from celebrating too quickly. "You HAVE to listen to all of our instructions without complaining, and we will skip training with the Tokyo Thunder team this week. Do you understand?"

Riku was about to complain, yet a final glare from Yuki stopped him from digging his own grave. Fortunately, Riku's problem was laziness, not stupidity. The blonde boy knew that skipping one training session with the Tokyo Thunder to prepare for an exam would be a far better scenario than having to skip three more times because he had to attend supplementary classes. So, after pondering for a few seconds, he finally nodded—albeit reluctantly.

"Good." Yuki sighed, leaning his body against the seat. "At least you're still smart enough to know which one you should prioritize first. Let's start studying later at my place. Also, bring all of your notes so that I can see which ones I should address the most, do you understand?"

"Yes, sir!" After that, Riku scampered off immediately, leaving both Yuki and Kato to sigh in unison.

"Are you sure this is a good idea?" Kato asked.

"Honestly? No, I know this is going to be a disaster," Yuki replied. Then he sighed one more time, feeling a headache coming on. "Man, this is going to be a long week."
