Chapter 675 What Are They Doing?

Chapter 675 What Are They Doing?

Mark knew exactly what the host was doing by pointing him out like this. This was a memorial service, but it was also a charity event that would lead to people bringing out money. By pointing out Mark, they were basically ensuring that people would want to donate more, either to bring attention to themselves as well or to impress Mark by making him aware of their generosity. And since Mark had been praised like this now, the hosts knew that it would be harder for Mark to not give even more than he had intended to. They were basically trying to get Mark in a good mood. It wasn't a bad tactic as far as Mark was concerned.

Mark understood all this because it was a typical business tactic that people used when trying to secure deals, so he was used to it and didn't feel irritated by it at all.

When a light was shone over Mark's table for people to get a better look, Mark just raised a hand for a second in greeting. Arit had a small blush on her face as she looked around at all the people clapping for them, and Mark realized that she was uncomfortable with all the attention and waved his hand calmly to tell them to cut the lights out. The lights were immediately turned off, and the host continued giving thanks and calling out people who were important in the charity event.@@@@

The host called out the president of America, Marilyn, and even governors of various cities. Mark was surprised that he was called before they were, but he didn't pay it any mind as he listened to the event.

Finally, after some time, the speeches began. There were moments for silence and memorial readings as those superhumans and civilians who lost their lives in the battle were remembered. But that only lasted for about an hour before it was quickly wrapped up. Everyone knew that the real purpose of this event was to generate as much money as possible, so they didn't spend too much time on the memorial at all.

After the hour was over, Matilda finally came up and started her own speech.

"Once more, I would like to thank everyone for coming to today's event. My name is Matilda Lindsworth and I am an A-rank superhuman that was on the ground when the Anima's first emerged. I've seen the extent of the damage that was done to the people and buildings all around the country, and I know just as much as anyone else how desperately the citizens require our help. We will not demand anything of anyone here, but we only ask that you give what you can in the quantity that you can. Various charity organizations and their causes will be handed out to you in pamphlets, and as we call out their names, you can pledge your support to their cause with any amount you find fitting. Thank you."

Once Tilda's speech was done, many ushers wearing suits came around and handed out pamphlets to the various superhumans. The person who brought Mark's pamphlet was a petite girl with a cute face, and she had a small blush across her cheeks as she handed it to Mark with both hands. Mark thanked her with a small smile, and her blush increased even more, but she quickly speed-walked away when she felt a stare directed at her and looked up to see Arit glaring at her in irritation.

The names called seemed harmless enough but when Arit read the organization's cause off the pamphlet that had been handed to her, she never felt like giving to the organization since the organization's cause was never appealing enough to her.

But as time went on, Arit started to notice a trend in all of these organizations. It was a strange thing to notice, and Arit would have ignored it on another day, but after studying strategy under Mark for so long, she was now more capable of picking out these small things that people would ignore, and she learned to trust her instincts more.

The superhumans were focusing more on the business-related organizations.

It wasn't obvious at all, because on paper, this was supposed to be a charity event and the organizations written on the pamphlets were focused on developing shelters, parks, or even companies that would help the survivors find 'aid' afterwards. There were other organizations that were more focused on humanitarian activities on the pamphlet, but the donations to those causes weren't as high as the ones to the more lucrative organizations.

Were they using this as a business opportunity?

Arit felt a little anger rising from deep inside her as she realized this, and when she turned to look at Mark, she saw Mark smiling at her. At that moment, Arit realized that Mark also knew what was going on, and he was just waiting for her to figure it out for herself.
