xander let out a deep breath as he saw the notification.

xander looked beside him and saw hannah's eyes on the red egg.
"it's a dragon egg–"

xander dropped the egg as he saw a crack appear on it. it landed on the floor with a soft thud.
the egg cracked open and a creature emerged from it. it was a small dragon that was only twenty centimeters tall and fifty centimeters long.
its eyes met xander and it looked at him weirdly as if sizing him up. it then crawled towards him with unstable steps.
"awwn~ it's so little." hannah tried to pick it up but it snarled, startling her. "bad dragon."
xander saw it looking at him and he sighed as he picked it up and put the dragon on his shoulder. "don't cause any trouble. otherwise, i'll throw you off the mountain. you must be worth a lot of exp–"
"xander..." hannah had a bitter smile on her face.
"what? i'm not good with animals." he confessed.
xander looked on his shoulder at the little red dragon that looked at him with its cute eyes.
"alright. i won't throw you off the mountain." xander said and as if understanding him, the baby dragon let out a purring sound.
xander then looked towards hannah with a smile.
"let's get out of here."
both of them walked towards the entrance of the cave but then... xander's expression changed as he looked beside him to see the manticore.

hannah gasped at his statement in disbelief, "are you calling me a talkative?"
xander and hannah's laughs echoed in the cave. they even forgot that they almost died a few minutes ago and just laughed as they talked without fear of being attacked by a monster.
soon, they walked out of the entrance and the wind graced their skin and they breathed non-cave air that they hadn't breathed in weeks.
the air wasn't polluted with fowl, monster breath but instead the scent of the trees closeby wafted past their nose.
the dragon on xander's neck too fell asleep as it breathed the innocent air of the forest.
