Chapter 653 Meeting a Goddess

Chapter 653 Meeting a Goddess

"You must really care for one another."

Arit blushed a little at her words, and a small smile broke out on her face. Arit was glad that Mark was worried about her, and if the girl said that Mark was asking after her, then that meant that Mark had gone through this same thing earlier and he was fine. Arit finally asked where she was, and the girl seemed to come to her senses as she made a cute sound in shock and brought out a clipboard.

"Y-You are in the zone of non-existence. That is, uhm... the space between dimensions that all gods use to travel from one point in space and time to another. B-But don't worry, this section of the zone belongs to Freya, so you don't have to worry about another god trespassing into it. Just imagining Thanatos or even Hel coming here is enough to make my heart shiver. I don't even want to think about it. Hahaha... yes, yes, right, well, you can't move around now because you don't have enough power to withstand the pressure here, so Freya is keeping your body in one place with her celestial power to make sure you don't get crushed, but you'll only be here for a moment longer. I just have to give you your reward for passing the trials."

Arit's brow furrowed in confusion. She was getting a reward for passing the trial. But wasn't it Mark's trial? Arit didn't think that she would be getting a reward since it was Mark that the gods had bet on.@@@@

Alyga nodded in understanding as Arit told her all of this. It was true that Arit was not actually meant to get any reward at all, but Freya had been able to find a loophole in the system to give Arit a reward simply because Arit didn't have a patron god.

"Your powers weren't gotten from a god, so there was no need for Freya to ask any of the other gods for permission to give you a gift. Most gods are not happy when their children receive gifts from other gods, so we would normally never give a gift to whoever comes with Mark Vanitas to these trials, and we would also erase their memories to make sure they don't try to interact with Mark Vanitas too much in the real world. But you are different simply because of the way you got your powers."

Arit was shocked by this. Were the gods really that petty? So they were willing to deny their children gifts from other gods just because they didn't want their children to stop worshipping them alone. Arit didn't know much about the gods since she had never spoken to any of them before, but from what Mark had told her, Arit knew that many of the gods were like children playing with toys when it came down to humans, and what Alyga just said told Arit that Mark was right. The gods really did see humans as toys.

Alyga could almost sense Arit's thoughts through the look on her face, and Alyga just smiled apologetically at how irritated Arit was by the obvious possessiveness shown by the gods. Alyga was just an attendant to the goddess Freya, so there was nothing Alyga could do about what the gods did. And besides, Alyga could understand the behavior of the gods because of how long-lived they are. It was the same way humans saw many of the short-lived creatures on Earth as lesser than them. If a human owned a dog, then the human would not be happy to see another human trying to take the dog away. You really couldn't blame the gods for treating humans with such apathy. Arit decided not to let the gods' behavior bother her too much and just asked what reward Freya was going to give her. Arit didn't have any hope for an extra powerful gift or ability since she knew that she had only come into this world to support Mark and nothing else. But she would be happy to get anything that would allow her to help Mark more in the future.

"You're beautiful."

Arit's words made Freya smile, and Freya came forward and ran her hand over Arit's cheek kindly.

"You are quite beautiful yourself, my child. With such beauty housing such a pure soul, I can see why Mark Vanitas holds you so close to his heart."

Arit blushed and ducked her head shyly as Freya put some of Arit's hair behind her ear, and at that moment, Arit felt like she was talking to her mother again. It had been so long since Arit really felt like a child, but Freya was able to make Arit feel that way effortlessly.

But Arit couldn't agree to being called a pure soul. Not after everything that she had done.

Freya tilted her head as she saw Arit's face squeeze into a frown.

"You doubt my words, don't you?"
