Chapter 527 The Sun Rises
Chapter 527 The Sun Rises
In the aircraft flying towards City G, Mark sat with his head leaned back, pressed against the hull of the plane, calmly trying to get as much rest as he could. He had just come out of one battle, so there was a bit of fatigue in his system that he wanted to purge. But a voice from in front of him drew Mark's attention away from his meditation and forced him to open his eyes.
"GHOST, I've been hearing a lot about your exploits. Even in a country as militaristic as my own, we can't help but be impressed by your abilities. Tell me, what exactly is your blessing?"
Ida spoke up in a calm voice that showed just how relaxed she was. Even though they were going into a battle that might claim their lives, she did not look the least bit nervous. She grinned at Mark in an almost seductive way, and though Mark couldn't deny she was beautiful, the smile only served to piss him off.
"My blessing is none of your business. Just do what you came here for and stay out of my way."
Ida frowned for a moment before she raised a placating hand.
"Okay, perhaps I went too far asking something so personal. I guess the rumors about you not revealing your blessing to anyone are true. But on a different note, if you are dissatisfied with the American government, what do you say about coming over to Germany as a military liaison? We are allies with your country, so I'm sure they won't be able to do anything if you did something like that."
Ida's German accent was thick as she spoke, and Mark could tell she was a lot more serious about him coming to Germany. His Styxwatcher's Discernment didn't even go off, so it was obvious she wasn't lying. But Mark had no intention of doing something like that.
If Mark was going to leave this country, then he was going to Japan.
It was the only country he knew after America that imposed the least amount of sanctions on their superhumans, and the mere fact they were enemies of America was enough to draw him to them. Mark would go there just to spite the American government.
But for now, Mark had no intention of leaving.
"I'm not interested."
Mark said this as he stood up and started to walk towards the rear of the plane. Everyone on the plane looked up at him curiously, wondering what he was about to do. They weren't there —
DOON!
Suddenly, as if they all had a premonition at the exact same time, they felt it! It was like death itself was pressing down on them from all sides! There was this deep, intense, primal instinct telling them to run and hide immediately, and most of them almost felt their hearts burst through their ribcages from how fast they were beating.
The voice of the pilot reached them from the comms.
"Wait! Fucking hell! He doesn't have his fucking chute!"
The man spoke in thick German, and Ida felt excitement bubble up from her belly.
"Hahahahahahah! Oh yes, GHOST is definitely something different!"
Ida laughed jovially before she suddenly threw her bag away and shouted an order to her soldiers while running forward!
"Don't make me get down there before you, you fools!"
The soldiers all watched in shock as Ida also fell from the plane, and they only glanced at one another for a second before they threw their bags away and ran forward, cursing GHOST in their heads!
...
The wind buffeted against Mark's face like a maelstrom as he free-fell from the sky. His eyes were focused entirely on the monster beneath him, and he didn't even allow himself to enjoy the brilliant view he got from being so high up. Mark passed through the clouds, and he began to hear the screeches and roars of flying anima all around him as they finally noticed his presence.
His mere presence was enough to draw their attention, and before long, there was an entire army of anima free-falling behind him!
Down on the ground, the superhumans were in despair. The feeling of knowing you cannot defeat an opponent regardless of what you do and the knowledge that you aren't going to survive to see the sunrise the next day tormented them. More than half of them had already begun to entertain thoughts of abandoning the mission. Just like everyone else, they also had families and loved ones.

They didn't want to die.
Luna, surprisingly, was also one of those considering abandoning the mission. It seemed hopeless, no matter what she did. Luna wasn't delusional. She knew if she continued this fight, she would die here. Even as a newly promoted ELITE Rank III, she didn't have the stamina or strength to stand up to this monster. And Luna also knew if she died, Arit would be alone.
Luna had no idea that Mark was already back in the real world, so she made it her responsibility to look after Arit until Mark returned. Even now, Luna still believed that Mark would find his way back. But if she died against this monster, then it would all be for nothing.
She was sure the government would take Arit and try her for murder – or, even worse, experiment on her to see how her powers worked. Luna was only a few moments away from retreating.
But then, the sun began to rise.
